COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Sport and Exercise Science degree at Aberystwyth University is structured over three years, combining core modules with optional courses to provide a comprehensive understanding of human movement, health, and performance. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in cell biology, human anatomy and kinesiology, physiological systems, and the psychology of physical activity and health. They also develop skills in research design, nutrition, and science communication, establishing the theoretical and practical base for advanced study. The second year focuses on applying evidence-based interventions, exploring motor learning and performance, sport and exercise physiology, nutrition, and physical activity for health, while further developing research methods. This prepares students to analyze, design, and implement exercise and training programs effectively. In the third year, students engage in consultancy work, a substantial research project, and training and performance enhancement, allowing them to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application. Optional modules in applied sports nutrition, injury and rehabilitation, and technological advances in sport, exercise, and health provide opportunities to specialize according to individual interests. Overall, the program equips students with the scientific, analytical, and practical skills required to support athletes, promote physical activity, prevent injury, and enhance performance, preparing graduates for careers in sport and exercise science, health promotion, coaching, and related professional fields.
