COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Psychology degree at Aberystwyth University provides a thorough grounding in the study of human thought, behaviour, and mental processes, combining theoretical understanding with practical research skills. In the first year, students are introduced to core topics, including applications of psychology, brain and cognition, conceptual and historical issues, social and individual behaviour, and research methods, alongside personal development and organisational behaviour. These foundational modules develop essential analytical, critical thinking, and research skills. In the second year, students build on this knowledge with advanced study in cognitive and social psychology, alongside qualitative and quantitative research methods, while also choosing optional modules tailored to their interests, such as health psychology, applied forensic psychology, evolutionary psychology, clinical psychology, psychology in practice, and the psychology of language. The third year focuses on specialised topics, including behavioural neuroscience, developmental psychology, and an independent research project, allowing students to apply their learning to original investigations. Optional modules provide further exploration of contemporary and applied areas of psychology, including personhood, child language, drugs and behaviour, ageing, humour, counselling, and coaching.
