COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Physics with Planetary and Space Physics degree at Aberystwyth University provides students with a comprehensive understanding of fundamental physics alongside a specialised study of planetary and space science. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in algebra, calculus, dynamics, waves, heat, electricity, magnetism, and modern physics, complemented by practical laboratory experience and optional modules such as astronomy and energy studies. The second year builds on this core knowledge with advanced physics topics, including mathematical physics, thermodynamics, optics, quantum mechanics, and numerical techniques, while introducing planetary science through modules on stars and planets and practical research skills. In the third year, students focus on astrophysics, the physics of planetary atmospheres, and condensed matter physics, alongside core modules in particles, quanta, and fields, culminating in a substantial research project that integrates theoretical and practical learning. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience in laboratory and observational techniques, computational modelling, and data analysis, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
