COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Nursing (Adult) program at Aberystwyth University is structured to develop competent, compassionate, and reflective adult nurses through a progressive combination of theoretical study and practical experience. In the first year, students focus on foundational knowledge and skills, including understanding the human body, developing professional practice, and introduction to professional nursing. This initial year combines classroom learning with practical modules such as demonstrating professional practice, which allow students to begin applying theory in clinical settings. In the second year, the program deepens field-specific knowledge in adult nursing, covering complex clinical scenarios, pathophysiology of common adult conditions, and further professional practice development. Students are encouraged to enhance their practical and critical thinking skills while integrating theory into patient care, preparing them for more advanced responsibilities. The third year focuses on leadership, innovation, and transition to autonomous practice. Modules in compassionate leadership and management, leading professional practice, and innovating practice prepare students to take initiative and make safe, ethical decisions in complex healthcare environments. Throughout all three years, the course balances theory and placement hours, ensuring students gain extensive hands-on experience. On completion, graduates are fully equipped to enter the nursing profession with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across diverse healthcare settings.
