COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Health Science (Nutrition and Exercise) degree begins in Year 1 with a strong scientific foundation, covering biological chemistry, cell biology, genetics, evolution, human anatomy, kinesiology and physiological systems. Students also develop essential communication and nutrition skills. In Year 2, the course advances into more specialised areas, including molecular biology, bioinformatics, cell and cancer biology, immunology, sport and exercise physiology, and sport and exercise nutrition. Research training is introduced to build analytical and practical competence. Year 3 focuses on applying knowledge to real-world health challenges through core modules in applied sports nutrition and an independent research project, which allows students to explore an area of interest in depth. A range of optional modules enables further specialisation, including injury and rehabilitation, training and performance enhancement, parasitology, microbial pathogenesis, molecular pharmacology, bioinformatics, functional genomics and developmental biology. Together, the three years provide a comprehensive understanding of how nutrition and exercise interact with human biology to influence health, disease prevention and performance, while equipping students with laboratory, research and applied skills relevant to careers in healthcare, public health, rehabilitation, sports science and related scientific industries.
