COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Geography program offers a broad and engaging curriculum that develops a strong understanding of both physical and human geographical processes. In the first year, students explore core themes such as Earth surface environments, planetary formation, environmental hazards, place identity and the dynamics of urban and rural change, while also learning essential research and data collection skills. The second year builds on this foundation through compulsory modules on human geography methods and data visualisation, helping students develop analytical and methodological confidence. A wide range of optional modules allows students to shape their degree toward physical or human geography, with choices including glacial and fluvial processes, sustainable societies, cultural geography, political geography, geoscience laboratory techniques and environmental change. In the final year, students undertake a substantial independent dissertation, applying the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course. Alongside this, they can choose from advanced modules covering climate debates, environmental management, glaciers, volcanic hazards, urban resilience, heritage and identity, landscape studies, and remote sensing for planetary health monitoring. Overall, the degree combines theoretical insight with practical fieldwork and analytical training, enabling students to understand complex global issues and equipping them for careers in environmental management, planning, consultancy, research and related fields.
