COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics and Climate Change degree at Aberystwyth University provides students with a comprehensive understanding of economics while focusing on the urgent challenge of climate change. In the first year, students are introduced to fundamental economic principles, data analytics, and an understanding of the economy, alongside modules that explore climate science and interdisciplinary approaches to climate change. This combination establishes the foundation for analysing the environmental and economic impacts of human activity. In the second year, students build on these concepts through macroeconomics, microeconomics, and research methods, while gaining specialised knowledge of climate governance and simulation techniques that demonstrate how economic and policy decisions influence environmental outcomes. Optional modules allow for deeper exploration into environmental systems, corporate governance, econometrics, international politics, and managerial economics, providing a multidisciplinary perspective on climate-related challenges. The third year focuses on applying knowledge through a dissertation and core modules such as environmental economics and growth, development, and sustainability. Students can also choose from topics including contemporary economic issues, global biodiversity conservation, economic thought, and population ecology, allowing for a tailored approach to their interests.
