COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Animal Behaviour degree is structured over three years to provide a thorough grounding in the scientific principles underpinning animal behaviour, alongside practical and research skills. In Year 1, students gain foundational knowledge in cell biology, comparative animal physiology, genetics, evolution and diversity, ecology and conservation, and disease diagnosis and control, while developing essential skills for wildlife science. Year 2 focuses on core topics in animal behaviour, behavioural ecology, vertebrate zoology, research methods, and veterinary health, allowing students to deepen their understanding of behaviour across species. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise further, with choices including geographic information systems, landscape ecology, invertebrate zoology, and tropical zoology field courses. Year 3 emphasises advanced study and independent research, with core modules in behavioural neurobiology, the welfare and behaviour of domesticated animals, and a substantial research project that enables students to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to original investigations. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as animal behaviour fieldwork, global biodiversity conservation, parasitology, population and community ecology, primatology, veterinary pharmacology, and wildlife conservation. The program combines classroom learning, laboratory work, and field-based experiences in West Wales and beyond, equipping graduates with the skills, knowledge, and practical expertise to pursue careers in animal welfare, conservation, research, or postgraduate study.
