COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Robotics and Embedded Systems Engineering program at Aberystwyth University is structured over three years, combining core knowledge in computing, electronics, and engineering with specialized training in robotics and intelligent systems. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational concepts through modules such as Algebra and Differential Equations, Calculus, and Information Security. Core computing skills are developed through modules like Introduction to Programming, Object-Oriented Programming, and Problems and Solutions, which emphasize problem-solving and software development. Study Skills for Computer Science supports academic development and successful transition into university-level learning.In the second year, the curriculum deepens with a strong focus on system design and technical application. Core modules include Algorithm Design and Data Structures, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Engineering, which build advanced programming and analytical abilities. Students also engage with specialized topics like Mathematical Physics, Robotics and Embedded Systems, and Sensors, Electronics & Instrumentation—providing essential skills for integrating software with physical systems and real-world environments.The third year emphasizes practical experience and industry readiness. Students undertake a Major Project, allowing them to apply their learning to a substantial engineering challenge. Modules such as Engineering Control Theory, Systems Engineering, and Professional Issues in the Computing Industry further develop technical and professional competencies. A unique feature of the final year is the inclusion of Space Robotics, exploring robotic applications in extreme environments. Optional modules such as Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robotic Applications, and Semiconductor Technology offer opportunities for specialization and further skill enhancement.
