COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Engineering Physics degree at Aberystwyth University combines the study of physics with practical engineering applications, preparing students to address complex technological challenges. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in mathematics and physics, covering algebra, calculus, dynamics, waves, heat, electricity, magnetism, and modern physics, alongside laboratory techniques that develop practical skills and experimental proficiency. The second year deepens knowledge in areas such as electricity and magnetism, mathematical physics, thermodynamics, optics, quantum mechanics, sensors, electronics, instrumentation, and numerical techniques, complemented by practical research experience to enhance analytical and problem-solving abilities. In the third year, students focus on advanced topics including condensed matter physics, particles, quanta and fields, engineering control theory, semiconductor technology, and systems engineering, while engaging in professional skills development and a substantial project that integrates project management with technical innovation. Throughout the degree, students develop the ability to apply theoretical principles to real-world engineering contexts, combining analytical rigor with creative problem-solving. Graduates are well-equipped for careers in industries such as renewable energy, electronics, communications, and advanced manufacturing, or for further study in physics and engineering.
