COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Writing for Broadcasting, Media and Performance degree at Aberystwyth University is structured over three years, combining core and optional modules to develop practical writing skills across film, television, theatre, and other media. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through modules on studying film and television, theatre in context, and writing continuing television drama, while optional modules offer opportunities to explore short filmmaking, film history, and site-specific performance. The second year focuses on writing for different media, with core modules in audio drama and film and television writing, supported by optional modules covering art cinema, creative documentary, genre fiction, digital culture, celebrity studies, LGBT film and television, Shakespeare in performance, and theatre in contemporary society. These modules allow students to expand their creative and analytical skills while exploring historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts. In the third year, students focus on advanced writing practice, including playwriting and scriptwriting, alongside a range of optional modules that explore contemporary drama, film and television studies, experimental and cult cinema, gender and media, music theatre, performance theory, and videogame writing. The program integrates creative practice with critical analysis, providing students with the skills, knowledge, and professional awareness to pursue careers as writers, dramaturgs, or creative practitioners across multiple media platforms.
