The Geography degree at Aberystwyth University is a well-rounded and flexible three-year program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in human geography, environmental studies, and social research. In Year 1, core modules such as Conflict and Change: The Making of Urban and Rural Spaces (GS10220), Living in a Dangerous World (GS10020), Place and Identity (GS14220), and Researching the World: Data Collection and Analysis (GS13020) introduce students to key geographical themes and research methods. Students also choose from optional modules like Earth Surface Environments (GS10520), How to Build a Planet (GS11520), and sociology-related topics including Key Concepts in Sociology (GS16120) and Thinking Sociologically (GS15120), encouraging interdisciplinary perspectives.Year 2 builds on this foundation with a stronger focus on research and applied learning. Core modules include Geography Research Design and Fieldwork Skills (GS20020), How to Build a Sustainable Society (GS27920), Placing Culture (GS22920), Placing Politics (GS23020), and Practising Human Geography (GS20920). Concepts for Geographers (GS20410) and Social Research Methods (GS20510) deepen theoretical and methodological understanding.
