COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA History and Welsh History degree offers a structured and diverse journey through Welsh, European and global history. In the first year, students develop core historical skills through Introduction to History and select optional modules that explore key periods and themes, including medieval to early modern Europe, Wales from 1200 to 1999, global developments from 1789 to the present, and hands-on work with historical sources. The second year strengthens analytical and research abilities through the core Making History module while allowing students to tailor their studies with options such as twentieth-century propaganda in Southeast Asia, medieval chronicles, civil rights in post-war America, Victorian culture and exhibitions, environmental history of the Neotropics, medieval famine, Weimar Germany, medieval kingship, modern Japan, the European Reformation, Reconstruction in the United States, and important aspects of Welsh history including medieval identities and the Tudor period. In the final year, students undertake a major dissertation and specialise further through advanced modules on topics such as Colombian republican history, Victorian societies, environmental history, medieval England, the Ku Klux Klan, the English Reformation, the reign of Edward II, and additional studies of Welsh political and cultural history. This structure allows students to build expertise while exploring areas of personal interest across three years of study.
