COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Filmmaking degree at Aberystwyth University provides a thorough and immersive exploration of the film production process, combining practical skills with theoretical understanding. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in film production, post-production, and editing, alongside hands-on experience through short film projects, while optional modules introduce film and media studies to develop critical analysis skills. The second year builds on this foundation, focusing on film craft through core modules that develop technical and creative expertise, while optional modules allow students to explore specialised areas such as art cinema, creative documentary, directing and producing, production design, and writing for film and television. In the final year, students undertake a major fiction film production project, integrating the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the course. Optional modules offer advanced opportunities to study cinematography, sound design, visual effects, experimental cinema, contemporary film, cult cinema, and scriptwriting, allowing students to refine their individual creative interests.
