COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Film and Television degree at Aberystwyth University offers students a broad and in-depth exploration of both the practical and theoretical dimensions of film and television. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through core modules such as Making Short Films, Studying Film, and Studying Television, while optional modules provide opportunities to explore movements in film history, media studies, and writing for television. The second year emphasizes professional and creative development, including a core module on Work in the Film and Television Industries, equipping students with industry awareness and practical skills. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as art cinema, digital culture, creative documentary and fiction, LGBT film and television, media, politics and power, youth cultures, and studio production. In the final year, students refine their expertise through a range of optional advanced modules, including contemporary film and television studies, cult cinema, experimental cinema, documentary production, fiction film production, experimental media production, videogame theories, media law and regulation, and scriptwriting. Additionally, students can undertake an independent research project to consolidate their academic and practical learning. Across all three years, the degree combines critical analysis, creative practice, and professional insight, preparing graduates for diverse careers in film, television, digital media, and other creative industries, or further postgraduate study in related fields.
