COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Drama and Theatre degree at Aberystwyth University provides students with a broad and in-depth understanding of theatre, combining practical performance skills with theoretical study. In the first year, students explore foundational aspects of theatre through core modules such as Theatre in Context, alongside options including studio theatre projects, acting, site-specific performance, and theatre technologies. This equips students with essential skills in performance, production, and creative experimentation. In the second year, the focus expands to include modules on Creative Arts at Work and Theatre and Contemporary Society, while optional modules offer practical experience in acting for camera, devised and directors’ theatre, Shakespeare in Performance, and large-scale production projects, allowing students to develop leadership, collaboration, and technical skills. In the final year, students have the opportunity to undertake independent projects, including ensemble or production projects, research, and playwriting, as well as specialized modules such as contemporary drama, music theatre dramaturgies, performance and architecture, performance and disability, and place, space, and landscape. Throughout the degree, students engage with diverse performance styles and theatrical forms, fostering creative thinking, critical analysis, and practical expertise. Graduates leave the program with the skills and experience required to pursue careers in theatre, performing arts, creative media, or further study, prepared for a dynamic and evolving professional environment.
