COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Drama and English degree at Aberystwyth University combines the study of literature and theatre, offering students both practical and academic experiences across three years. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through core modules such as the Studio Theatre Project, Theatre in Context, Ancestral Voices, and Critical Practice, alongside optional modules including Acting, Body, Voice and Perception, and literature-based courses like Literature and the Sea. The focus is on understanding theatrical practice, performance, and the relationship between drama and society. In the second year, the course builds on these foundations with core modules like Literary Theory and Shakespeare in Performance, while options allow students to explore Acting, Directing, Creative Arts at Work, Theatre Production, and Theatre and Contemporary Society, enabling practical application of performance theory and creative development. In the final year, students undertake independent research projects in theatre or literature and may choose modules such as Playwriting, Contemporary Drama, Music Theatre Dramaturgies, Performance and Architecture, and thematic literature studies. Across the program, students develop critical thinking, creative writing, performance skills, and analytical capabilities. By the end of the degree, graduates have gained a robust combination of theoretical knowledge, practical theatre experience, and transferable skills, preparing them for careers in theatre, performing arts, creative writing, education, and other cultural industries.
