COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Technical Art and Visual Effects program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop highly skilled Technical Artists capable of working across games, film, and television industries. In the first term, students focus on Realtime Graphics and Shader Techniques and Technical Art VFX, providing essential knowledge in visual effects creation, real-time rendering, and shader programming. In the second term, the curriculum advances to Realtime Tool and Pipeline Development and Procedural Methods for VFX and CG, equipping students with the technical expertise to develop custom tools, optimise workflows, and implement procedural techniques for complex visual effects production. Research Methods and Practice support students in applying academic and industry research to practical projects, while optional modules such as Game Design and Development, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, and Case Studies and Research Methods allow for tailored learning based on individual interests and career goals. The program culminates in a Masters Project, where students undertake a significant research or production-based project, demonstrating their technical, creative, and problem-solving abilities. By combining artistic creativity with technical proficiency and industry-relevant skills, graduates are prepared to meet the demands of contemporary visual content creation, working effectively in multidisciplinary teams and contributing to innovative projects across global media and entertainment industries.
