COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sports Therapy program at Abertay University offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop advanced clinical skills and applied knowledge for treating and rehabilitating musculoskeletal injuries. In the first term, students study functional anatomy and human movement, gaining a deep understanding of the musculoskeletal system and how it relates to performance and injury. They also learn therapeutic modalities to manage acute and chronic injuries, as well as peripheral injury assessment and clinical skills, equipping them to evaluate and treat a wide range of conditions effectively. Clinical placement forms a key component of the program, providing 250 hours of supervised, hands-on experience in professional settings, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world practice. In the second term, the focus shifts to sport and exercise rehabilitation, strategies for injury prevention, and clinical reasoning alongside spinal injury assessment, enabling students to develop a holistic approach to treatment and recovery. The program also includes a dedicated sports therapy research project, which allows students to explore an area of interest in depth, integrating research skills with practical application. Graduates leave with the expertise, clinical experience, and professional competencies necessary to pursue careers in sports therapy, rehabilitation centres, private practice, and athletic healthcare, prepared to support the health, performance, and recovery of athletes and active populations.
