COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Environmental Health at Abertay is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for careers in environmental health, public health, and related industries. Core modules include Food Safety and Microbiology, which provides an understanding of hygiene management systems and methodologies essential for ensuring food safety. Public Health Nutrition and Health Promotion 2 focuses on nutritional epidemiology, assessment methods, biostatistics, and the evaluation of diet and physical activity in maintaining public health. Health, Safety and Environmental Management develops the ability to manage environmental issues within public and private sectors, examining policy, legal, and ethical frameworks, and fostering sustainable project management skills. Research Methods introduces students to both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, statistical analysis, and practical lab work, enabling them to apply theory in real-world investigations. Innovation in Design allows students to critically reflect on analytical, planning, and evaluation tools, applying these to design and construction processes in simulated real-world projects. Waste, Wastewater Management and Climate Change explores applied environmental management, regulatory and technical standards, and climate change mitigation strategies. The program culminates in an MSc dissertation, where students undertake an in-depth, individual research project in an applied context, consolidating theory and practice, and demonstrating expertise in their chosen area of environmental health.
