COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Environment and Energy offers a well-rounded curriculum that integrates environmental management, renewable energy, project planning, and digital asset management with a strong research foundation. The Health, Safety and Environmental Management module introduces practical tools for managing environmental issues beyond legal compliance, encouraging students to view the environment as a strategic business concern. It also explores the policy, legal, and ethical frameworks in which projects operate and builds leadership skills for managing diverse teams sustainably. The Renewable Energy module delves into advanced scientific, technological, socio-economic, and environmental aspects of renewable energy, particularly biofuels, preparing students to evaluate and contribute to sustainable energy systems. Project Management equips students with the methodologies and tools required to analyse and plan projects effectively, including learning from project failures to suggest better alternatives. The BIM & Asset Management module explores Building Information Modelling (BIM) principles and the digital tools used for efficient and secure information sharing throughout a structure’s lifecycle, from planning to demolition. Waste, Wastewater Management and Climate Change focuses on environmental management practices related to waste and wastewater within the broader challenge of climate change. It examines regulatory and technical aspects, environmental standards, and the use of climate models to inform practical management strategies. Research Methods provides a grounding in both qualitative and quantitative research approaches, enabling students to apply statistical and methodological skills in real-world contexts. The program culminates in the MSc Dissertation, where students independently explore a topic within their chosen specialism, conducting in-depth research and producing a substantial academic report. Overall, the course provides the scientific, managerial, and technical skills necessary for graduates to address key environmental and energy challenges and pursue impactful careers in these expanding sectors.
