COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Construction Management program at Abertay is structured around six taught modules designed to develop comprehensive skills in managing construction projects and organisations. Students study environmental management, gaining knowledge of sustainable practices and regulatory requirements in construction. Research methods provide the foundation for analytical and evidence-based approaches, essential for informed decision-making. The module on environmental regulation and business strategy explores how legal frameworks and corporate planning intersect to ensure compliance while supporting organisational objectives. Creation and management of a company equips students with entrepreneurial skills, leadership strategies, and operational insights needed to manage construction businesses effectively. Logistics, waste pollution, and processing of building materials focus on the practical and technical aspects of construction operations, including resource management and environmental impact mitigation. Financial management of construction operations teaches students to plan, budget, and monitor project finances, ensuring efficiency and profitability. After successfully completing the taught modules, students undertake a work-based MSc dissertation, allowing them to apply their learning to a real-world construction management challenge. This combination of theoretical, practical, and research-based learning prepares graduates to take on senior management roles in the construction industry, equipping them with the expertise to lead projects, manage operations sustainably, and make strategic business decisions within complex construction environments.
