COURSE CURRICULUM

The Abertay law program offers a structured and comprehensive curriculum across core modules that span both terms of study. In the first term, students are introduced to foundational concepts such as being successful at Abertay, legal systems and methods, public law, criminal law, family law, business transactions, EU law, criminological theory, penal institutions, and legal philosophy and human rights. These modules aim to develop essential skills in legal reasoning, critical thinking, and understanding of the societal and institutional contexts of law. In the second term, the focus shifts to practical and specialised areas including numbers for everyday life, law of contract, delict, criminalisation in the twenty-first century, public law two, law of succession, law of property, law of evidence, and business organisations. This term emphasizes the application of legal principles, analytical skills, and understanding complex legal frameworks relevant to both civil and criminal law. Together, the program integrates theoretical foundations with practical knowledge, preparing students for further academic study or professional practice. By combining core legal subjects with modules exploring criminal justice, human rights, and business law, students gain a holistic understanding of the law’s role in society, the functioning of legal institutions, and the interrelation between law, policy, and everyday life.
