COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with Health Sciences program at Abertay spans multiple years, combining core psychology, health science, and practical application to improve wellbeing. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules in introductory and comparative psychology, community health and wellbeing, essential numeracy, and university success skills, establishing a broad understanding of human behaviour, health, and academic skills. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced study in research methods, cognitive psychology, public health nutrition and health promotion, and support for second-year entrants, providing practical and theoretical knowledge to apply psychological principles to real-world health contexts. In the third year, students focus on specialised topics including food and behaviour, psychobiology, social cognition across the lifespan, mental health psychology, human development, and advanced research design and analysis. This combination allows students to understand how psychological, biological, and social factors interact to influence health behaviours, dietary choices, and mental wellbeing. Overall, the program integrates scientific theory, research expertise, and applied health sciences, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills to support behaviour change, promote healthier lifestyles, and contribute to public and community health initiatives. Graduates are prepared for careers in psychology, health promotion, and related professional roles, or for further postgraduate study.
