COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with Forensic and Investigative Psychology program at Abertay spans four years, combining core psychological theory with applied forensic practice. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules in introductory and comparative psychology, community health and wellbeing, practical numeracy, and university success skills. This establishes a broad understanding of human behaviour, health, and research principles. The second year builds on this foundation with a focus on research methods, cognitive psychology, understanding offending behaviour, and applying psychology in real-world contexts, alongside support for second-year entrants to succeed academically. In the third year, students advance into specialist and applied topics, including psychobiology, social cognition, human development, and eyewitness psychology, as well as advanced research design and analysis, preparing them to critically assess evidence and conduct robust research. The final year emphasizes forensic application and independent study, with modules on investigative psychology and policing, applied cognitive psychology, and an honours research project, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to major crime investigations and develop professional research skills. Overall, the program integrates psychological theory, research expertise, and practical forensic application, preparing graduates for careers in forensic and investigative psychology, law enforcement, criminal justice, or further postgraduate study, combining scientific insight with real-world relevance.
