COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with Development and Education program at Abertay spans four years, combining foundational psychology, developmental theory, and applied educational practice. In the first year, students build essential skills through modules in introductory and comparative psychology, community health and wellbeing, practical numeracy, and university success skills, establishing a broad understanding of human behaviour and development. The second year deepens knowledge with cognitive psychology, research methods, and practical applications such as the Tomorrow’s Child module, alongside preparation for second-year entrants to support academic success. This year emphasizes understanding learning processes and the application of psychological principles in real-world contexts. The third year advances into specialised areas including psychobiology, social cognition across the lifespan, human development, mental health psychology, and advanced research design and analysis, preparing students to critically evaluate evidence and apply psychological knowledge to developmental and educational settings. In the final year, students focus on independent research through the honours project, and applied practice with modules in language education and early years, as well as applied cognitive psychology. Overall, the program integrates theory, research, and practical application, equipping graduates to support the learning, growth, and wellbeing of children and young people and preparing them for careers in education, developmental psychology, and related professional roles or further postgraduate study.
