COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Management degree at Abertay University offers a comprehensive and practical curriculum that equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a wide range of business roles. In Year 1, students develop foundational understanding across core areas including accounting, management, economics, and organisational behaviour. Modules such as Introduction to Accounting, Nature of Management, Managing People and Ideas, and Business Economics provide a solid base in key business principles, while Abertay 101 supports students’ academic development and transition into university life.In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge with a focus on practical business applications. Modules include Business Analytics, where students learn to interpret data for strategic decisions; Project Management, which introduces planning and delivery methods; Theory and Practice in Human Resource Management, examining workforce development; and People, Planet, Profit, which introduces sustainability in business contexts. These areas prepare students to understand operational efficiency, human capital, and ethical responsibility.Year 3 explores more advanced and contemporary topics. Students study Digital Business Strategy, which focuses on innovation in the digital economy, and Business and Environmental Sustainability: Reaching Net-Zero, which tackles corporate responsibility in the climate crisis. The Employability Analysis & Career Building module supports career planning and enhances workplace readiness.In the final year, students sharpen their strategic and global business skills through five focused modules. Managing Change prepares them to lead through organisational transformation; Strategic Management provides frameworks for long-term planning; and Operations Management and Business Redesign teaches process improvement. Business Ethics in Society explores moral responsibility in decision-making, while International Business and Management prepares students for global markets.Through case studies, projects, and industry links, students gain real-world insights and graduate ready for careers in management, consultancy, sustainability, and business development in both local and international contexts.
