COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sustainable Communication program is a one-year master’s degree that focuses on how communication shapes understanding and action around sustainability challenges such as climate change, inequality, and global development issues. It combines perspectives from media studies, social sciences, and sustainability research to help students understand how information is created, shared, and interpreted in society. In the autumn semester, students begin with Social Sciences of Sustainability, which provides a foundation for analysing sustainability issues from a societal perspective. They also take Introduction to Sustainable Communication, which explores how communication contributes to sustainability efforts. Transmedia Storytelling and Design focuses on creating narratives across different media platforms, while Technopolitics of Sustainability examines the relationship between technology, power, and environmental issues. In the spring semester, students study Research Methods 1 and 2 in Sustainable Communication, which develop skills in academic research, data collection, and analysis. The program concludes with a Master’s Thesis in Media and Communication, where students independently investigate a topic related to sustainability and communication. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in media, communication, journalism, public relations, and sustainability-related organisations, equipping them with analytical, creative, and research skills to communicate complex global challenges effectively.
