COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Studies: Sustainable Societies and Social Change program is a one-year master’s degree that focuses on understanding and addressing major global challenges such as climate change, inequality, biodiversity loss, and social injustice. It is an interdisciplinary program that combines social sciences and sustainability studies to help students analyse how environmental and social issues are connected across local, regional, and global contexts. In the autumn semester, students begin with Social Sciences of Sustainability, which provides a foundation for analysing sustainability from a societal perspective. They also take Introduction to Global Studies: Sustainable Societies and Social Change, which introduces key themes of the program. Critical Issues in Sustainability 1 focuses on social perspectives on climate change and environmental challenges, while Critical Issues in Sustainability 2 explores social justice, equality, and human rights. Project Planning and Sustainability Strategies develops skills in designing and managing sustainability-related projects. In the spring semester, students study Research Methods 1 and 2 in Global Studies, which build competence in academic research, data collection, and analysis. The program concludes with a Master’s Thesis in Global Studies, where students independently research a sustainability-related topic. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in policy, development, research, and sustainability-focused organisations.
