COURSE CURRICULUM

The Conflict, Risk and International Security program is a one-year master’s degree that focuses on understanding global and regional security challenges, including wars, terrorism, and political instability. It provides students with the analytical tools needed to examine the causes and consequences of conflict and to assess risks in a changing international environment. In the autumn semester, students begin with Security Studies, which introduces key concepts and theories related to international security. They also study War and Changing World Orders, which explores how global power structures and conflicts evolve over time. Risk Management and Society examines how risks are understood and managed within political and social systems, while Waves of Terrorism focuses on the development, patterns, and impacts of terrorism. In the spring semester, students take Research Methods 1 and 2 in Global Studies, where they develop essential skills in academic research, data collection, and analysis. The program concludes with a Master’s Thesis in Global Studies, where students independently research a topic related to conflict, risk, or international security. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in international relations, security analysis, policy-making, and roles within governmental and non-governmental organisations working in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and global security governance.
