COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Product Development with a specialisation in Assistive Technology (MASTech) for Engineers is structured over two years to combine engineering expertise with medical and healthcare knowledge for the development of assistive devices. In the first year, students begin with Fundamentals in Assistive Technology and an Introduction to Medical Sciences bridging course, which builds essential interdisciplinary understanding. They also study Product Realisation, focusing on turning ideas into functional solutions. In the spring semester, the program continues with Assistive Technology Design, where students learn to create user-centred devices, along with an Innovation Project that encourages practical problem-solving. Additional courses in materials and production processes and quality improvement in health and engineering strengthen technical and quality assurance skills. In the second year, students explore co-production in health and welfare, working closely with users and professionals to develop effective solutions. An industrial placement provides real-world experience in the assistive technology sector, while courses in management and innovation in the health sector and research methods and evidence-based practice deepen their understanding of healthcare systems and scientific evaluation. The program concludes with a master’s thesis, where students conduct independent research on a relevant topic. Overall, it prepares graduates for careers in assistive technology design, product development, and healthcare innovation.
