COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science with Honours in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management is structured to progressively develop technical, analytical, and professional skills required in the construction and built environment sectors. The program begins with foundational modules such as project design skills, construction materials, domestic construction technology, and domestic building science and services, which introduce students to how buildings are designed, constructed, and function in practice. Early exposure to construction industry practice, land and building surveying, and introductory building and group projects helps students connect theory with real-world application. As the course develops, learners study commercial construction technology, quantity surveying measurement, project administration, and law for construction professionals, building competence in cost assessment, measurement techniques, legal frameworks, and project coordination. Communication and academic development are strengthened through academic writing for sciences and effective communication skills modules. Advanced stages of the program focus on contract management, construction finance and value management, and commercial management, equipping students with the ability to manage budgets, control costs, and oversee contractual and commercial decisions in complex projects. Practical learning continues through higher-level building projects and group projects that encourage teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. The program culminates in a research dissertation, allowing students to independently investigate a specialised topic in depth.
