COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Computing with a major in Cyber Security at Curtin University requires students to complete 400 credits to graduate, with most units carrying 25 credits each unless stated otherwise. The course is structured across four trimesters and combines advanced computing knowledge with specialised cybersecurity training to prepare students for professional roles in information security and digital defence. In the first trimester, students build strong technical and research foundations through subjects such as Fundamentals of Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Science Project, and STEM Research Methodologies. These units help students develop programming, analytical, and research skills essential for advanced cybersecurity studies. In the second trimester, students study specialised subjects including Fundamental Concepts of Data Security, Web Application Frameworks, Data Network Security, and Data Mining. These topics focus on protecting systems and networks, securing web applications, and analysing large-scale data for cybersecurity purposes. In the third trimester, students gain advanced practical knowledge through units such as Incident Handling and Forensics in Network Defence, Intrusion Detection, Penetration Testing, and Secure DevOps. These subjects focus on identifying security threats, investigating cyber incidents, testing system vulnerabilities, and developing secure software environments. The final trimester includes two major Computer Science Project units, each worth 50 credits, allowing students to apply advanced research and technical skills to real-world cybersecurity challenges.
