COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Computing with a major in Computer Science at Curtin University requires students to complete 400 credits to graduate, with most units carrying 25 credits each unless stated otherwise. The program is structured across four trimesters and combines advanced computing theory with practical software development and research skills. In the first trimester, students build strong foundations through subjects such as Fundamentals of Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Science Project, and STEM Research Methodologies. These units develop programming, analytical thinking, and research capabilities essential for advanced computer science studies. In the second trimester, students study specialised topics including Web Application Frameworks, Introduction to Software Engineering, Data Mining, and Cloud Ops – Security and Automation. These subjects focus on software development, cloud technologies, automation, and extracting valuable insights from data. In the third trimester, students gain advanced technical knowledge through units such as Explainable Approaches to Machine Learning, Advanced Problems in Computer Science, Software Engineering Requirements and Specification, and Secure DevOps. These units emphasise modern computing practices, machine learning, secure software development, and system design. The final trimester consists of two major Computer Science Project units, each worth 50 credits, allowing students to apply their technical and research skills to real-world computing challenges. Graduates are prepared for careers in software engineering, cloud computing, cybersecurity, machine learning, and advanced information technology industries.
