COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Computing with a major in Artificial Intelligence at Curtin University requires students to complete 400 credits to graduate, with most units carrying 25 credits each unless stated otherwise. The course is structured across four trimesters and focuses on advanced computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and research skills. In the first trimester, students build strong foundations through subjects such as Fundamentals of Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Science Project, and STEM Research Methodologies. These units develop programming, analytical thinking, and research capabilities essential for advanced AI studies. In the second trimester, students explore specialised artificial intelligence topics including Decision Methods and Predictive Analytics, Neural Networks and Statistical Machine Learning, Industrial Automation and Robotics, and Planning and Handling Uncertainty in Machine Learning. These subjects focus on predictive modelling, intelligent systems, robotics, and machine learning applications. In the third trimester, students study advanced AI concepts through units such as Advanced Artificial Intelligence Research Topics, Explainable Approaches to Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and Search and Logic Approaches in Machine Learning. The final trimester is dedicated to two major Computer Science Project units, each worth 50 credits, allowing students to apply advanced research and technical skills to real-world artificial intelligence challenges. The program prepares graduates for careers in AI, machine learning, data science, and advanced computing industries.
