COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma of Computing at Curtin College requires students to complete 400 credits to graduate, with most units valued at 25 credits each. The program uses a variety of assessment methods to evaluate students’ understanding and practical abilities, including individual and group assignments, presentations, quizzes, tests, and examinations. Detailed assessment information is provided in each unit outline. The course is divided into two stages across four trimesters and is designed to build strong academic, mathematical, programming, and computing foundations. In Stage 1, students study Academic Research and Writing, Mathematics 1, Computers, Robotics, and Future Technologies, and Management during the first trimester, followed by Academic Communication Skills, Programming Fundamentals, Mathematics 2, and Studies in Society in the second trimester. In Stage 2, the curriculum becomes more technical and specialized. Students learn subjects such as Integrating Indigenous Science and STEM, Linear Algebra and Statistics for Engineers, Fundamentals of Programming, and Fundamental Concepts of Data Security in Trimester 3. In Trimester 4, students study Data Structures and Algorithms, Introduction to Software Engineering, Unix and C Programming, and Computer Systems. Upon successful completion, students graduate with a Diploma of Computing certificate awarded by Curtin College.
