COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computing in Cyber Security at Curtin University requires students to complete 600 credits to graduate, with most units carrying 25 credits each. The course is structured across six trimesters and combines computing fundamentals with advanced cyber security training to prepare students for careers in information security and software development. In the early stages of the program, students study foundational subjects such as Fundamental Concepts of Data Security, Programming Design and Implementation, Introduction to Software Engineering, Integrating Indigenous Science and STEM, Data Structures and Algorithms, Unix and C Programming, Linear Algebra 1, and Cyber Security Concepts. These units help students develop programming, analytical, and system security skills. As the course progresses, students gain advanced technical knowledge through subjects including Computer Communications, Cloud Computing, Operating Systems, Unix Systems Programming, Cyber Crime and Security Enhanced Programming, Database Systems, and Fundamental Concepts of Cryptography. Students also study modern technologies such as Machine Learning and complete industry-focused Capstone Computing Project units to apply their learning to practical scenarios. In the final trimester, students focus on specialised security topics including Intrusion Detection Systems, Incident Handling, Penetration Testing, and Cyber Defence. Elective units throughout the program allow students to broaden their technical expertise. The course prepares graduates for careers in cyber security, network security, software engineering, digital forensics, and information technology management.
