COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Information Technology at Curtin University requires students to complete 600 credits to graduate, with most units carrying 25 credits each. The course is structured across six trimesters and provides students with strong technical foundations in programming, computer systems, networking, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and software development. In the early stages of the program, students study core subjects such as Fundamental Concepts of Data Security, Fundamentals of Programming, Integrating Indigenous Science and STEM, and Linear Algebra 1. These units help students develop analytical, mathematical, and programming skills essential for information technology careers. In later trimesters, students gain deeper technical knowledge through subjects including Computer Systems, Introduction to Software Engineering, Unix and C Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Data Communications and Network Management, Cloud Computing, Operating Systems, and Unix Systems Programming. The program also covers specialised topics such as Database Systems, Distributed Networks, Human Computer Interface, and Advanced Computer Communications. Students complete Capstone Computing Project units to apply their technical knowledge to practical industry-related projects. Elective units provide flexibility to explore additional areas of interest within computing and technology. The course combines theoretical and practical learning to prepare graduates for careers in software development, network administration, cloud computing, cybersecurity, systems management, and other high-demand information technology fields.
