COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Marketing (MMktg) at the University of Canterbury is a 180-point taught degree designed to equip students with both foundational and advanced marketing skills. It includes 105 points of compulsory courses covering core topics such as marketing principles, analytics, consumer insights, and digital marketing. The program also features a strong practical component, culminating in an applied project that allows students to integrate their learning in a real-world context. This project can be completed through either a 30-point applied marketing project combined with a 15-point elective, or a full 45-point consultancy project. Most courses are delivered on campus, with select offerings available online and supported by in-person workshops. Students also specialise by completing 60 points toward a major subject. Currently, Digital Marketing is offered as a major, with courses in strategy, social media and content marketing, search engine optimisation, and analytics. As the degree is newly introduced in 2025, additional majors are expected to be added over time. This structure ensures that graduates not only gain theoretical understanding but also the practical expertise necessary to thrive in today’s data-driven and digitally focused marketing landscape.
