COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Forestry Science (MForSc) at the University of Canterbury offers a flexible structure that allows students to tailor their studies to their academic background and career goals. There are three completion options: students can take 240 points of courses, including the FORE679 MForSc Report; 120 points of courses followed by the FORE690 MForSc Thesis; or the thesis-only pathway (FORE690) for those who have already completed at least 120 points of relevant postgraduate-level study. This flexibility accommodates students with varying levels of prior experience and allows for both research-focused and professionally oriented pathways. The program can be completed in 1 to 3 years of full-time study or between 18 months and 4 years on a part-time basis. It provides a comprehensive education in forestry science, with courses covering a wide range of topics such as forest ecology, silviculture, wood processing, and advanced IT applications. Small class sizes and access to expert supervision ensure a supportive learning environment. This degree equips graduates with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in forest management, policy, consulting, and research, both in New Zealand and internationally.
