COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Canterbury is a structured, professionally oriented program designed to develop strategic leadership and business skills through a combination of core courses, electives, and a consulting project. The degree consists of 180 points in total and can be completed in a minimum of 18 months of full-time study. The curriculum includes 125 points of compulsory courses that cover key areas such as digital transformation, data-informed strategy, agile leadership, financial governance, marketing intelligence, business sustainability, and research methods. Courses like MBAM601 Digital Transformation and MBAM610 Agile and Innovation-driven Leadership ensure students gain future-focused insights and practical management tools. A central component of the program is the 45-point MBAM680 Consulting Project, which allows students to apply their learning to a real-world business challenge, often in partnership with an industry client. In addition to the core requirements, students select one 10-point elective course from options including MBAM624 Global Business, MBAM625 Entrepreneurship, or an international study tour (MBAM626), among others. Not all electives are offered each year, so students are encouraged to consult with the MBA Coordinator for course planning. This hybrid MBA combines academic rigour with real-world relevance, preparing graduates for senior leadership roles across industries.
