COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Architectural Engineering (MArchEng) consists of two parts, both of which must be completed within four years, with full-time and part-time study options available. Part I includes two compulsory courses focused on collaborative building design and two practice-focused courses specific to the chosen endorsement. Part II involves advanced technical courses and an integrated building design project, with some courses offered by the University of Auckland. Students in the Structural Engineering or Building Services and Energy Engineering endorsements who complete Part I can progress either within their endorsement or switch to the Integrated Building Design endorsement for Part II. The program is delivered through a mix of online and face-to-face block learning to support students who are working. Integrated Building Design students may begin their studies in February or July, while other endorsement students start in July. The degree requires 120 points of coursework, covering topics such as human factors in building design, building modelling and integrated design, building environmental control, and structural assessment and retrofit. Part I courses include ENAE601 Whole Building Behaviour and Performance and ENAE602 Collaborative Building Design Studio, alongside endorsement-specific courses like sustainable building design for Integrated Building Design, structural design practice for Structural Engineering, and building energy systems for Building Services and Energy Engineering. Part II comprises ENAE620 Integrated Building Design Project plus three advanced courses related to the student’s endorsement. The endorsements available are Integrated Building Design, Structural Engineering (August start only), and Building Services and Energy Engineering (start date to be confirmed).
