COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychological Science requires a minimum of 360 points, including 195 points of compulsory core psychology courses, 60 points towards a Psychological Science minor, and at least 60 points from either a second minor or elective courses. Up to 100-level points can be taken from psychology or other degree courses, with a requirement that at least 90 points are at 300-level. The degree combines foundational and specialized psychology courses across three years, culminating in a final-year community project. First-year courses cover introductory psychology topics such as brain and behaviour, social development, and human communication. Second-year courses include research methods, cognition, social psychology, and neuroscience. Third-year courses focus on intermediate research, applied psychology, and psychopathology. Students choose from several minors within Psychological Science, including Forensic Psychology, Neuroscience and Cognition, Psychological Wellbeing, and Workplace Psychology, among others. Additionally, students may opt for a second minor from a broad range of disciplines such as Biological Sciences, Economics, Environmental Science, Health Education, Māori and Indigenous Studies, Philosophy, Public Health, Sociology, and Youth and Community Leadership. If completing only one Psychological Science minor, elective courses can be selected from many subjects across science, social sciences, health, and humanities, allowing students to tailor their degree to their interests and career goals.
