COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) is a flexible, three-year full-time degree (or up to six years part-time) requiring a total of 360 points. It prepares students for diverse roles in health by offering both theoretical and practical knowledge across human biology, health promotion, epidemiology, Māori health, and health policy decision-making. The degree structure includes 120 points of compulsory courses, at least 120 points from Health Sciences courses, and 120 additional points which may come from Health Sciences or other degree programs. At least 225 of the total points must be from courses above 100-level, with a minimum of 90 points at 300-level.Students can tailor their degree by completing either a single major, a major with a minor, or a double major, though the latter may require exceeding the standard 360 points. Each major consists of at least 120 points, including 45 above 100-level and 30 at 300-level. A minor consists of at least 75 points, with 45 above 100-level, and can be selected from a wide range of subjects across several faculties.Compulsory courses include HLTH101, HLTH102, HLTH106, and BIOL116 in the first year; HLTH203 and MAOR270 in the second year; and HLTH301 in the third year. Available majors are Health Education, Māori and Indigenous Health, Psychology, and Public Health. The program supports broad career pathways in the health sector and beyond, with minors offered in over 60 disciplines, ranging from Biochemistry and Media to Sport Management and Te Reo Māori. This multidisciplinary approach, combined with smaller class sizes and strong academic support, ensures graduates are well-equipped to address the complex health needs of individuals and communities across Aotearoa and globally.
