COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Digital Screen with Honours (BDigiScreen(Hons)) at the University of Canterbury is a four-year degree requiring a minimum of 480 points. This includes 270 points of compulsory courses and at least 390 points from Digital Screen courses, with the remaining 90 points available from Digital Screen or other university disciplines. A minimum of 345 points must be earned from courses above 100-level, including at least 90 points at 300-level and 120 points at 400-level. The program introduces students to all phases of digital media production, from idea development to content creation and distribution. In the first year, students take foundational courses like storytelling, screen production, game development, and sound technologies. Project-based learning starts from the second year, leading up to a capstone project in the third year and advanced production work in the fourth. Students are required to complete a major subject, which involves a minimum of 120 points, with an option to add a minor consisting of at least 75 points, including 45 points above 100-level, selected from a range of disciplines. Majors available include Animation, Cinematic Arts, Game Arts, Game Development, Screen Sound, and Screenwriting. The final year deepens students' expertise with courses focused on digital screen conception, production, and project execution, preparing them for a career in film, gaming, or digital media industries.
