COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) at the University of Canterbury requires students to complete a minimum of 360 points to graduate. Out of these, at least 255 points must come from Arts courses, which include two compulsory courses. The remaining 105 points can be selected from either additional Arts courses or courses from other degree programs, providing flexibility for students to tailor their academic experience. To ensure depth of study, a minimum of 225 points must be from courses above the 100-level, with at least 90 points required at the 300-level. The BA is typically completed over three years of full-time study, but students also have the option to study part-time for up to ten years, making it accessible to a wide range of learners. Within the degree, students can choose to complete either a major and a minor or pursue two majors (a double major). Each major requires at least 135 points in a single Arts subject, including 45 points at the 200-level and 60 points at the 300-level. A minor consists of a minimum of 75 points, with at least 45 points above the 100-level, and can be selected from a variety of disciplines including Arts, Commerce, Digital Screen, Health, Product Design, Science, Sport, or Youth and Community Leadership. For students interested in a broader interdisciplinary approach, the BA also offers a specialisations pathway. This option allows students to follow a structured set of courses based on a broad theme, enabling them to combine multiple subjects while developing expertise in a specific area of interest. This pathway provides additional flexibility and customization, allowing students to align their academic focus with personal passions and career goals. Overall, the BA at the University of Canterbury offers a balanced, comprehensive, and adaptable structure for students pursuing careers in a variety of fields.
