COURSE CURRICULUM
In the first year of the accounting program, all students begin by taking core courses during the first semester that provide a foundational understanding of business processes and practices. These introductory courses help students explore different areas of business and guide them in deciding which subjects to specialise in as they progress through their studies. In the second semester, students focus more specifically on accounting essentials, learning about the procedures and systems used to collect and manage financial information. Alongside this, students begin taking courses related to their chosen second major, minor, or electives, allowing them to broaden their knowledge and skills. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of international accounting practices and the role of accounting in supporting decision-making within organisations. The coursework typically covers important areas such as financial and management accounting, auditing, and taxation. These subjects provide students with a comprehensive view of how accounting functions in different contexts and prepare them for professional challenges. Students continue to take courses from their second major, minor, or elective subjects, ensuring a well-rounded education. The third year focuses on completing the final courses related to students’ majors, minors, or electives in the first semester. The final semester offers a valuable opportunity for workplace experience, where students can apply their learning in a real-world environment. They have the option to work within an organisation of their choice, start their own business venture, or complete an applied project. This hands-on experience helps students gain practical skills, build professional networks, and enhance their employability. Recent placement opportunities have included reputable organisations such as ANZ Bank, Auckland Council, Audit New Zealand, Deloitte, EY, KPMG, One NZ, and Westpac Bank, providing students with exposure to a variety of professional environments and accounting practices.
