COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts degree requires the completion of 360 points, structured into three key components: core courses (120 points), a chosen major (120 points), and a flexible component (120 points). Core courses are designed to build transferable skills and provide a foundation for success across all areas of study. They begin with a focus on academic communication, with students selecting either Academic Communication (COMM570) or Learning in a Digital World (COMM590). Students then choose one course from five thematic clusters aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including subjects such as social justice, sustainability, education, and philosophy. These clusters cover diverse areas, from New Zealand history and climate action to food culture and gender development. The final core course is a workplace experience in the third year, offering hands-on learning with an organisation related to your major, helping bridge study and employment. Students interested in postgraduate study can choose a research-based alternative. Your major, making up one-third of your degree, allows for in-depth focus in a specific subject. The flexible component adds further customization, with options to pursue two minors, a minor and elective courses, or a second major, which can be chosen from within or outside the Bachelor of Arts program.
