COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology requires 64 credit hours, combining non-psychology and psychology core courses with electives across major content areas. Students begin with foundational non-psychology requirements, including College Writing, College Algebra, Human Biology, and Human Genetics, to build essential academic and scientific skills. The psychology core (37 hours) introduces students to the field through courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Careers in Psychology, Research Methods, and Ethics, while also developing strong analytical abilities through Measurement and Statistics, Advanced Statistics, and a Senior Thesis. Assessment milestones at the sophomore and senior levels, along with the Capstone course on History, Philosophy, and Systems of Psychology, ensure integration and application of knowledge. Students also take 15 credit hours of psychology electives, with the requirement of at least one course in each of five content areas to guarantee a broad and well-rounded perspective. These areas include Biological Perspectives, with options like Biopsychology and Health Psychology; Clinical and Counseling Perspectives, including Abnormal Psychology and Counseling; Lifespan Development, covering child, adolescent, and adult development; Learning and Cognitive Perspectives, with courses on memory, cognition, and decision making; and Social and Cross-Cultural Perspectives, focusing on international, organizational, and social psychology as well as motivation and emotion. This curriculum provides a strong foundation for graduate study and careers in psychology.
