COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology requires 39 credit hours designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the field through core courses, electives, and specialized content areas. Students begin with foundational courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Careers in Psychology, Introduction to Measurement and Statistics, and Introduction to Research Methods, along with key assessments at the sophomore and senior levels. They also study Psychology and Ethics and complete a Senior Capstone focusing on the history, philosophy, and systems of psychology. In addition, students must take psychology electives, including at least one upper-level course, and select one course from each of five major content areas to ensure a balanced perspective. Biological perspectives include options like Sensation and Perception, Health Psychology, Drug and Chemical Dependency, and Biopsychology. Clinical and counseling perspectives cover areas such as Abnormal Psychology, Personality Theory, and Counseling. Lifespan development courses explore child, adolescent, and adult psychology, as well as lifespan development as a whole. Learning and cognitive perspectives focus on applied learning theory, cognitive psychology, memory, and decision-making. Social and cross-cultural perspectives include courses in social psychology, motivation, international psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology. Recommended courses, such as the Community Practicum and Senior Thesis, provide valuable practical and research experience.
